Steve Bizzaca
Managing Director & CEO
Steve is an Electrical Engineer with more than 20 years’ experience in the underground coal and metalliferous mining industries.
Steve’s experience is wide ranging, including large project management, longwall moves, conveyor installations and maintenance and operational management in mining and engineering. He has extensive knowledge of the industry, particularly in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.
Steve was responsible for the purchase and commissioning of Queensland’s first modern longwall at Central Colliery in 1985 and was the Project Director for the design and development of the Southern Colliery Project in 1988. He was Project Manager/Operations Manager for TiWest Ltd and Project Manager for feasibility studies for Newcrest’s Telfer expansion.
Steve has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Curtin University. He founded SBD Services in 1995 and has led its growth since then.
Glyn Dawkins
Director Business Development
Glyn began his career at Six Bells Colliery in Wales UK in 1963. He immigrated to Australia in 1978 and started at Appin Colliery as Assistant Mechanical Engineer.
Glyn was promoted to Mechanical Engineer in Charge at Appin Colliery in 1980 and remained in that role until 1997 when he left Appin to commence with Aklynd Engineering. He founded Delta Mining in 1999 with two other employees and has led its growth since then.
During his career, Glyn has been heavily involved with many longwall relocations and conveyor installations, roadway development, the introduction of methane drainage systems, off track transport systems and electro hydraulic mega boliting rigs and upgrades of conveyor systems.
He was also responsible for the complete operation of Delta Colliery (formerly Elouera) for BHP Billiton. Glyn has an Honours Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and a Mine Mechanical Engineers Certificate of Competency in both the UK and NSW.
Tony De Santis
Chief Operating Officer
Tony has extensive experience in the underground coal mining industry across a wide variety of operational and management roles, in both the Southern Coalfields of NSW and the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.
He started as a Mining Engineer Trainee with BHP Illawarra Coal at the Old Bulli Colliery in 1982 and worked in a number of supervisory and managerial roles within BHP Billiton’s Illawarra mines, including Mine Manager at the Elouera and Appin mines and Superintendent of the combined Appin and Tower mines.
In 2001, Tony took up the role of Mine Manager at AngloCoal’s Moranbah North Mine in central Queensland, before moving back to Wollongong and joining Excel Coal as General Manager Helensburgh Coal in May 2002.
Tony has a NSW First Class Certificate of Competency and an MBA from the University of Wollongong.He joined DeltaSBD in February 2007.
Les Gardner
General Manager Health, Safety and Compliance
Les began his coal mining career at Cordeaux Colliery in 1978.
He has extensive experience in underground coal mining including roadway development, pillar extraction operations, longwall operations including face recovery, construction activities, conveyor installations, ventilation systems and operations management.
Les spent five years as Undermanager in Charge at West Wallsend Colliery and was Manager of Oakdale Colliery for three years. He also spent two years as a Coal Mines Inspector and three years as Senior Inspector for the NSW Department of Mineral Resources.
Les has a NSW First Class Certificate of Competency and a Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competency and is qualified in risk management and safety control protocols.
He has worked with DeltaSBD since 2002.
Tim Jackson
Project Director
Tim has 37 years experience in the coal industry, nationally & internationally, having worked at mines in the Northern, Southern, Western coalfields of New South Wales, Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, Indonesia and the United States of America.
He has held a variety of operational and corporate positions during that time, including: Mine Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Manager, Undermanager In Charge, Production Manager, Longwall Manager, Mine Manager, General Mine Manager, Inspector of Mines & Corporate Risk Manager.
Tim holds the following qualifications: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Class Certificates of Competency (Qld & NSW), Mine Mechanical Engineers Certificate of Competency (NSW), Ventilation Officer (Qld), Shotfirer (Qld & NSW) and a Masters Degree in Business & Technology (MBT) from the UNSW.
Neil Marvell
General Manager Illawarra
Neil has almost 30 years experience in the underground coal mining industry, particularly in the areas of roadway development, longwall operations and mine services.
He started as a Surveyor at Nebo Colliery in 1979, moved to a Mining Engineering role at Kemira Colliery in 1989 and began as Shift Undermanager at Elouera Colliery in 1991.
From 1998 he held the position of Undermanager in Charge and Ventilation Officer at Elouera before being appointed as Operations Manager in 2004.
Neil joined DeltaSBD in 2005 and was Production Manager for Delta Colliery and Project Manager for the Appin development project.
Neil has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from the University of Wollongong, a Graduate Diploma in Mine Ventilation from the University of NSW and a NSW First Class Certificate of Competency.
Dominic Jones
General Manager Queensland
Dominic has extensive business experience in the underground contracting environment both in hard-rock and coal mining.
Dominic started his business career managing an engineering business that provided solutions for the platinum mining industry in South Africa. In 1995 he was instrumental in founding Torrex Contracting Pty (Ltd), a mining contracting company that specialised in mechanised underground development across Southern Africa.
In 2006 Dominic relocated his family to Australia where he was employed by G&S Engineering as Manager of their underground operations. He joined DeltaSBD in October 2006.
Jim Richardson
General Manager Hunter
Jim has 29 years underground operations experience, and has industry recognition for best practice in the area of roadway development.
He has worked as a Development Superintendent, Undermanager in Charge and a Shift Undermanager and has a NSW Second Class Certificate of Competency and an Associate Diploma of Mining Engineering.
Cecilia Milani
Human Resources Manager
Cecilia’s human resources career spans more than 20 years. She has over 10 years experience in supporting and administering workforce management services within diverse organisations, including both multi-site domestic and international operations, such as Westpac Banking Corporation, Cleary Bros (Bombo) Pty Ltd and Illawarra Technology Corporation Limited (a University of Wollongong business).
Cecilia has a Diploma in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management from Charles Sturt University.
She has successfully implemented strategies to achieve the WorkCover Premium Discount Scheme, ISO 9001 Accreditation (both in Australia and New Zealand) and EOWA Employer of Choice.
