Whole of Mine Management

DeltaSBD will take over operations at Berrima Colliery from Berrima Coal Pty Ltd from 1 September 2009. Berrima Colliery is an underground coal mine located at the end of Medway Road, Medway.  The colliery holding is owned by Blue Circle Southern Cement Ltd’s parent, Boral Ltd.

DeltaSBD was  responsible for the total operation of the new Wongawilli NRE Colliery, which was purchased from BHP Billiton by Gujarat NRE in 2008.
DeltaSBD took over the operation of the former Elouera Colliery on behalf of BHP Billiton in 2004. Operations included both development and longwall operations, as well as all environmental requirements and mining approvals. This operation required the provision of more than 110 personnel (including all statutory personnel). Delta operated the mine from October 2004 to April 2006, with care and maintenance continuing until the mine was purchased by Gujarat NRE in December 2007.

DeltaSBD also operated Central Colliery on behalf of AngloCoal.  DeltaSBD took over the complete operation in 2006, including longwall operations. This required the provision of more than 70 personnel (including all statutory personnel).

Roadway Development and Support

DeltaSBD has extensive experience in the development of longwall gateroads and main headings development, and is currently undertaking a long term development contract at Appin Colliery for BHP Billiton and continues to provide development panel assistance at NRE’s Wongawilli Mine. Past development contracts have been completed at BHP Billiton’s West Cliff, Cordeaux and Elouera Collieries and Xstrata’s United Colliery.
DeltaSBD’s proven section extension methodology has been utilised at Bundoora mine, which continues to reduce downtime and lower panel advance time.

Longwall Installations, Relocations and Salvages

Conveyor Installation

The following conveyor projects have been successfully completed recently, again demonstrating DeltaSBD’s ability in this area:

Conveyor Maintenance

DeltaSBD has extensive experience in conveyor maintenance, having been responsible for all mechanical work at both Central and Southern Collieries for a number of years. DeltaSBD has also completed refurbishment of all the Southern Colliery conveyors now associated with Grasstree and is currently undertaking similar work at Austar.

Secondary Support and Specialist Mine Services

DeltaSBD has been actively involved at Appin Colliery for the past six years, providing tailgate and maingate services retractions and secondary support. Tailgate services have included pipe retractions, ch4 service recoveries, standing secondary support (tin cans, link and locks), installation of stone dust barriers and bulkabags. Maingate services have included pipe retractions, installation of tendon support (megabolts), and installation of monorail bolts and monorails services, seals and standing support (tin cans, link and locks).
DeltaSBD has also been involved at Metropolitan Colliery for the last five years installing all secondary support in the Longwall gateroads.
DeltaSBD has extensive experience in roadway rehabilitation, drill and blast excavation and dyke removal having recently undertaken such work at Appin colliery, as well as at Ashton mine.
